LIFE STYLE OF PEOPLE

The life style of people of dera khalsa started changing on the day when electric power connections were given to this village in 1980.This was the first development project ever announced by government for this village. This project left tremendous effects on the minds of population and people started thinking about their future. When first villager   bought  television, this was the starting day of this village towards a new history.

Religious Festivals
As the entire population of village is Muslim, therefore, most important religious festival is Eid celibration. Eid-ul-Fitr is a religious festival celebrated at the end of Ramadan on 1st of Shawal. The celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr is an important part of the culture of this village. The government of Pakistan being a Muslim country has declared the holiday for three days on Eid-ul-Fitr. On this occasion village people those are away from village due to their outstation services, business or any other reason move back towards village to celebrate this festival with their families and friends. On Eid day, man, women and children wake up early in the morning. Every body is very happy on this day. The practical enjoyment of the day starts from taking bath and put on new dresses. After getting ready for Eid prayer man and children move towards village mosque. The Eid prayer is held in the Mohammadi Mosque Dera Khalsa or in an open area like fields, ground or pasture. After the Eid prayers, people return home, and elders are to give eidi to all children of the family. People visit each other's home and eat sweet, special dishes cooked on this occasion. On Eid day there is no restriction on children and they can move all around the village to celebrate this occasion. The schools play ground adjacent to village remains full with boys and children on this day. Different type of games like cricked / football matches are also arranged by village youth on this occasion. Sometimes neighbor village teams are also invited for friendly matches. The women of the village after having done the cooking also visit each other on this religious celebration. Watching television programs has also become an integral part of the Eid celebration in this village.

The celebration of Eid-ul-Adha is similar to Eid-ul-Fitr. The only big difference is the Qurbani or sacrifice of domestic animals on Eid ul-Adha. The people of the village always arrange their animal for Qurbani well before the Eid day. In the morning on the Eid day, immediately after the prayer, affluent people slaughter their animal of choice. Less affluent people also take part in the festivity by visiting houses of the affluent who are taking part in Qurbani. After the Qurbani, a large portion of the meat is distributed among the entire village families. The poor families of the village are always given more shares as compared to stable families. Although the religious doctrine allows the sacrifice anytime over a period of three days starting from the Eid day, most of the people prefer to perform the ritual on the first day of Eid.

Sports
Cricket is the most popular sport among the village youth, followed by Volley Ball and Foot Ball. Village cricket and volley ball team participate in almost every regional tournament. The players carry out their regular practice in village play ground. When ever a match of village team is organized in the village play ground with an outsider team village youth, old men and children enjoy with great enthusiasm. The village elders always encourage the village youth for healthy sports activities.
